Some of the stories were about cars I have owned. Some were about cars I wish I owned, and some were about cars I hope I never encounter, but all of the stories were fascinating and fun. This book is very good if you are a fan of all things automotive, which I am.

However, if you are looking for stories about American iron, I'd look elsewhere. His stories about rallying are excellent and the best part of an overall good book. He made me want to buy a vintage sports car and drive into the adventure of vintage rallying. Awesome author, must read for the motoring enthusiast.

A note from the author: In this third and final of the Motor Oil series, I wanted to include some more travel adventures, a few buyer's guides and insider's information about cars from the s and s that might become classics. I also needed to include some observations about how the world of the automotive enthusiast is changing now and where those changes will take us in the future.

Kevin Clemens is my kind of writer! Actually, at times I felt I was reading the story of my life. Except, of course, for the fact that he's a better writer and got to play with cooler cars. Kevin captures the essence of cars from a car guy's perspective.
Whether it's the mind-boggling performance of the latest European supercar, the twitchy responsiveness of a classic MG T-Series, or the feeling of self-reliance that comes from knowing you can handle a roadside breakdown. Added to this is a tribute to the fast-disappearing automotive junkyard, a diagnosis of the pack-rat mentality that obsesses collectors, and the sense of satisfaction that comes from teaching your children to appreciate fine automobiles. And beaters, for that matter. Above all this book is fun.
Kevin Clemens (Author of Motor Oil For A Car Guy's Soul)
I enjoyed every page and was sorry to come to the last page. But I think there's a sequel. The author takes us through many different times and situations. Sometimes sharing experiences, on other occasions reminiscing, then again turning philosopher, but always in or around cars and car stuff. Especially enjoyable was his tales about the classics that he adapted and developed for racing, sometimes upgrading them at least in one case too far and yet - too little.
Every modification, as always, had its ramifications. Do we want to race or do we want to win? Or do we just want to enjoy a crisp, early spring drive and the tranquility it brings? All these scenarios are aired, and very colourfully so. What I also enjoyed was how Clemens never seemed to shy away from getting his hands dirty: Or maybe it's just that cars have become so sanitized, electronificated and generally blah, that you hardly ever even smell them getting warm, these days.
That's where an older model will grab your attention and once it has it, more often that not demand it, and certainly, won't carry on for very long without it! This is where the stories Clemens relate hit home in a very personal and yet, profound way. I really enjoyed the book! Kevin had me with his book review of "The Red Car". He tells a good story and his love of cars is evident. I learned a lot from the stories Kevin relates to the reader. Perfect Paperback Verified Purchase. When two car guys and I use the term in the same manner as the author, as a genderless label get together, the conversation might range across a wide range of car-related topics: How is that trailer working out?
Motor Oil For A Car Guy's Soul
What do you think of the new electronic technology being installed in modern cars? How was your last vintage racing weekend? Why did you pick that MG TD as a race car, anyway? This is a wonderful book to take on a trip, or put on the bedside table, because it rewards even a few minutes of reading. Costing little more than one of the glossy English-published car magazines, it is great value for money, and even after you finish it, you'll find yourself mulling over something Kevin said, or wrote, that is , and want to dip into the book all over again.
